To the editor:
On election day, Tuesday April 24, the citizens of Mifflin, Juniata and Snyder counties have the opportunity to make a positive impact for our area.
For the last 10 years, we have been represented, in name only, by Adam Harris. During this time, Harris has been controlled by the special interests and lobbyists in Harrisburg, voting in favor of the midnight pay raise, cuts to libraries and education and the campaign contribution sell-out to the Marcellus Shale drilling interests.
Meanwhile, our area suffers from high unemployment, high taxes, school closures and unfunded state mandates which are passed on to our local taxpayers. During his time in office, Harris has cost the commonwealth over $1 million in pay and benefits, but has been absent from our area.
In the last 10 years, Harris has never even visited Lewistown Borough Hall, our Mifflin County Board of Commissioners or our primary job creator, the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation. He has never contacted our local officials to assess our needs or concerns.
As a result, we are left to look out for ourselves as far as contact with state government is concerned.
By promising to restore representation to our area, Jim Felmlee offers a refreshing alternative to the elusive Mr. Harris. Through his term as president of the State Association of Boroughs, Jim has done more for this area for free than Harris has done for his $1 million price tag.
Jim Felmlee is well qualified to be our next state representative and is deserving of our support and votes.
