LEWISTOWN - Jim Ream hopes to fill a needed niche in the sports and outdoor equipment arena with his new store.
Ream recently opened Valley Sports and Outdoors off U.S. 522 North just above Kish Valley Veterinary Services on Glenlew Drive.
"I always wanted to own a sporting good store ... one day I said to myself, 'I'm not getting any younger,'" Ream said, adding that he shoots competitive archery and enjoys fishing and hunting as well.

When Ream started coaching softball six or seven years ago, parents would approach him to ask advice on what equipment to purchase for their kids.
"I thought why not incorporate that, make the store a one-stop shop," Ream said.
Ream said his shop has a full array of Hoyt Bows and fishing gear that caters to bass and trout fishermen, including bowfishing accessories and hunting accessories.

Ream said that in addition to the baseball and softball equipment, he carries some things that are harder to find in the Juniata Valley, such as field hockey equipment and kayaks.
"I think customer service is key ... if I don't have it, I'll try and get it for you," Ream said.
"I try to keep prices competitively down," he added.
