PORT ROYAL - A Perry County man shot himself Friday afternoon in what police are calling an apparent suicide attempt outside of the Uni-Mart store in Port Royal.
Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report David George Beaver, 45, of Ickesburg, was flown to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center to be treated for a self-inflicted gun shot wound. A hospital spokesperson said Beaver was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on Friday night, but he was unable to give a condition update.
The shooting incident came at the end of a two-hour standoff with police in the Uni-Mart parking lot. Police said they tried to serve a Perry County bench warrant to Beaver around 2 p.m. Friday, but Beaver then brandished a handgun while sitting inside his vehicle. The standoff drew state troopers and other law enforcement personnel from the surrounding area, including the Juniata County Sheriff's Department.
