REEDSVILLE - Hosting elegant and creative parties in Mifflin County just got a little easier.

The Briar Rose Bed and Breakfast in Reedsville is now opening its doors to offer a venue for small parties. The Tea Garden, which opened this month in the first floor of the house, will host parties of up to 15 for teas, breakfasts, brunches, lunches and dinners. The tea room is open by reservation only.

Owner Lisa Everetts said her friends and customers have been encouraging her to branch out and serve meals to more than just overnight guests at the Briar Rose.

A room inside the Briar Rose Bed and Breakfast is decorated for Halloween. The room, which includes a mural of the Stone Arch Bridge, is the location of the new Tea Garden, a tea and party room now open in Reedsville.

Earlier this month, Everetts said she received her food license; and she already is booking parties through the holidays. Weekends fill up quickly, she said.

Bursting with ideas, Everetts painted the Tea Garden room with a mural of the Stone Arch Bridge in Lewistown. She also is painting lattice work around the room to make it look like a garden.

As the year progresses, Everetts said she plans to decorate the room to look like a garden for the four seasons and holidays.

The Tea Garden can host bridal or baby showers, office parties, church groups, girls' nights out and more, Everetts said.

Her prices depend on the meal and number of people in the group, Everetts said. Typically a two-hour event will cost $225 for a group of 15, which equates to $15 per person, she said.

She offers sample menus for each season, but the meals are not limited to the items on the list - Everetts said she has hundreds of recipes.

A meal typically consists of a soup, salad, sandwiches and dessert, as well as hot and cold drinks, she said.

"I'm not carrot sticks and ranch dip," Everetts said.

She makes all of her own food, including her specialty salad dressings, and decorates it for the season.

"Every party is going to be unique to each person," she said. "I think life is a party. It's just a reason to get together."

Everetts said she looks forward to every holiday because it means having a party. An experienced hostess, the bed and breakfast owner said she has been planning and hosting elaborate parties for friends and family for many years.

At the Tea Garden, she said she wants to make guests feel comfortable to kick back, relax and share a laugh with friends. In the near future, she said she also hopes to offer overnight packages for special events, like women's spa nights.

The Briar Rose Bed and Breakfast is located at 170 N. Main St., Reedsville.
