McALISTERVILLE - With hopes of bringing a fresh, young approach to hair styling, McAlisterville resident Melany Zendt has opened A Genesis Salon.
Zendt opened the salon, which is located along state Route 35 North in McAlisterville, at the beginning of June.
She said she decided to start up her business because she had worked at a salon in Camp Hill for about seven years, and also wanted to be close to her other McAlisterville business, North Ridge Custom Cycles. Zendt also said many area residents encouraged her to open her own salon because of her training and expertise in the business.

Zendt said she is trained predominantly in hair coloring and cutting, which also are the two aspects of the industry she's most passionate about.
"That's what I kind of focus on as far as hair goes," she said.
A Genesis Salon, named for Zendt's vision of establishing "a new beginning," offers hair cuts and colors, including highlights, as well as special occasion styling and eyebrow waxing.

Zendt's goal is to offer the latest hair trends to her customers through her past training, and also through continued learning. She said she plans to stay up-to-date with the latest looks through online classes and other technology.
In the future, Zendt may be interested in incorporating massage and other such treatments into her business.
"I'd like to learn more about skincare," she said.
