YEAGERTOWN - Ever since she opened her new salon, Heather Lowrey has been sending off good vibes.

Lowrey, of Lewistown, launched Vibe Hair & Nail Salon on May 31. The business, located along South Main Street in Yeagertown, offers a variety of services for both women and men, including haircuts, hair color and highlights, and manicures and pedicures.

Lowrey said she got the idea to open Vibe because she had been in the hair industry for more than 11 years.

Heather Lowrey, owner of the new Vibe Hair & Nail Salon on South Main Street in Yeagertown, stands inside her new business, which spotlights classic movie stars to achieve an ‘Old Hollywood’ feel. The salon, which opened on May 31, offers a variety of hair and nail services. Lowrey, of Lewistown, said since she opened up shop the community response has been ‘outstanding.’

"(I) wanted something more modern and fun," she said.

Lowrey said her salon is more "personalized" and focuses on "one-on-one" treatment. The idea is to have a "feel-good, relaxation" type of venue, while maintaining fair prices, she said.

Vibe's walls are lined with black-and-white photos of timeless movie stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, and the pedicures are named after classic actors, actresses and movies, to go along with the salon's "Old Hollywood" feel, Lowrey said.

Hair services include consultation, in which clients have the opportunity to discuss their options with stylists; haircuts and maintenenance trims or bang trims for women; clipper haircuts and business men's haircuts for men; children's haircuts and style; perms; chemical straighteners; formal finish up-dos; base color and touch-ups; and root touch and root-end highlights, as well as lowlights, according to the salon brochure.

Nail services include manicures and pedicures, with French style available for both; as well as a "manly men pedicure," which focuses more on massage and uses unscented lotions, according to the brochure.

Since opening her salon, Lowrey said the response from the community has been "outstanding," and that customers feel "comfortable" there.

In the future, Lowrey wants to gear more of her services towards kids. Although she does offer children's haircuts, she'd like to start something like mother-daughter pedicures, she said.

Also, starting next month, Vibe will offer "gelish" nails, which is a new polish service for both fingernails and toenails. What's beneficial about it, Lowrey said, is that the color doesn't chip.

"It actually has to be removed," she said.

Lowrey said she's also interested in gearing more of Vibe's hair product lines toward being more organic and natural. Currently, one line of products the salon carries is 100 percent gluten-free, she said, while another is 100 percent vegan, which means the products aren't tested on animals.

In addition, Vibe will be adding staff, Lowrey said. A nail technician will come on board this July, and in October a hair stylist will start work, she said.

"I want a place where people can go and just relax," she added, and "when (they) walk out feel comfortable with themselves."

Vibe is located on 310 S. Main St. in Yeagertown, next to the Sticky Bun Cafe. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For more information call 248-0100 or visit www.yourvibe.me.
