YEAGERTOWN - With May coming to an end and the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League nearing the half way point, Yeagertown and Beaver Springs both won games on Friday that kept the two teams close to undefeated Lewistown.
The West is 12-0 while Beaver Springs is 12-2 - one game out - and Yeagertown is 11-4 - two and a half games behind the West.
On Friday, Yeagertown had to hold off Strodes Mills by a 6-4 score while Beaver Springs downed McVeytown, 10-3.
Yeagertown used a huge fourth inning to score four times as the hero of the day was Jordan Stetler, who ripped a three-run bases loaded triple to spark Yeagertown to the lead.
Strodes Mills led 2-1 going into the fourth inning before Stetler came up with his big blast.
With one out, David Monsell picked up his second base hit of the game. Monsell stole second and Seth Snook walked. Strodes Mills pitcher Adam English picked up a strike out for the seocnd out.
Rookie Chase Frederick drew a walk to load the bases and then Stetler unloded his triple. He scored one batter later when Aaron Hubler reached on an error.
Yeagertown added an insurance run in the fifth as Max Fultz singled, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Monsell reached on an error and when Monsell and Fultz had a double steal, Fultz scored.
In the first inning, Yeagertown picked up a run as Isaac Strohecker singled and scored on a Fultz single. Strodes Mills ended the inning on an unassisted double play from second baseman Luke Amspacker.
Strodes Mills started out on fire as it led off the game with three straight singles by English, Bret Pallotto and Blaise Roush. Stetler made a running catch in center field on Seth Brown to save a big inning for Strodes Mills. Pallotto did score on Brown's sacrifice fly.
Strodes Mills chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Justin Gantz reached on an error that scored one run in the sixth. In the seventh, Strodes Mills could have had a big rally if it were not for a bizarre play.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Brown hit a ground ball that turned into a run thanks to an error. But when Yeagertown put the ball back in play, Strdoes Mills had two runners at third base and when the one returned to second, he was tagged out.
Strodes Mills had eight hits with English getting two. Fultz and Monsell each had two hits for Yeagertown.
Strohecker and Kyle Bodtorf combined for the win for Yeagertown with Strohecker working the first four innings and Bodtorf picking up the save.
For Strodes Mills, it marked its fifth game of the week - all losses - but three were one and two runs games - 5-4 to Belltown, 4-3 to Milroy and Friday nights two-run loss to Yeagertown.
Beaver Springs 10, McVeytown 3
BEAVER SPRINGS - Alex Lash pitched a complete game for Beaver Springs on Friday as he gave up seven hits to McVeytown in a 10-3 win.
Lash struck out five and only walked one in his team's 12th win of the season.
Josh Fike led the Beaver Springs offense with a 4-for-4 effort. The Springs had 11 hits with Luke Zimmerman and Justin Mattern each getting two hits and also one extra-base hit a piece. Both of Zimmerman's and Mattern's extra-base hits came in the fourth inning when Beaver Springs took a 4-1 lead. Zimmerman had a triple and Mattern a double.
Doug Harshbarger was the only McVeytown player with multi hits with two. Harshbarger and Cody Donaldson hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth and in the seventh Dane Wakefield had a double and came home on an RBI single by Carter Spade.
Belltown 4, Belleville 3
BELLEVILLE - Belltown put up three runs in the second inning and it held up against Belleville on Friday for a 4-3 win.
Belltown had four hits in the second inning as Tory Mills had a double and Devin Chesney, Bill Whisler and Addison Monroe each had singles.
Mills and Whisler each had two hits and Ryan Combs had a double.
Belltown scored a run in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead, but Belleville got two in the bottom of the inning to cut the margin to one.
Derek Yoder doubled and Lucas White drove him home with a triple and White later scored on an error.
Tyler Snook had two hits for Belleville and John Michael Maclay had a double.
Luke Bender picked up the win for Belltown with a complete game. He gave up six hits, struck out three and walked no one.
Reedsville 11, Milroy 6
MILROY - Reedsville scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind to beat Milroy by an 11-6 score Friday night.
Reedsville had 12 hits with Aaron Michaels, Hunter Walker and Jack Wagner each getting three. Zach Owens had two hits as the four Reedsville players combined for 11 of the 12 hits.
In the sixth, Reedsville got three walks and had RBI singles from Walker and Dan Sutton. Owens had a two-run double and Wagner finished off the inning with a single that knocked in two runs.
Milroy, which had seven hits, went ahead by one in the fifth. Dylan Phillips put Milroy in front with a double that drove in two runs.
Matt Lutz, a 13-year-old, had three hits for Milroy.
