Who doesn't love a vacation? I've been lucky enough to travel to many different places, but there are many more on my list that I know I'll never get to, primarily due to limitations dictated by time off work and, of course, my budget.
But that doesn't stop me from surfing the Internet, ordering travel guides from destinations I'd like to see and dreaming my way around the world.
I'm also an avid collector of postcards, and that collection continues to grow thanks to my traveling friends who allow me to go to their destinations vicariously. Just last week I was able to "go" to Jerusalem, the Philadelphia Zoo and Fell's Point in Baltimore, thanks to postcards I received.
I also surround myself with mementos of trips I have taken - one wall in a small room in my home is a gallery of framed photos and ephemera from trips my family and I have taken, and I've created a pile of scrapbooks and photo albums containing more of the same.
While the Internet is a mecca for travel-related articles, ideas, photos and information, my favorite stop is the CU section of The Sentinel's Web site, in particular, the You CU section, where many local people post photos taken at their favorite vacation spots. Most of those photos are awesome!
Vacation photos trigger memories of fun times and great places, not only for the people who took the vacation, but for others who may have traveled to the same or similar destinations or would like to.
In order to share that experience, The Sentinel is publishing a special section with a new approach on a popular theme - I Remember When - My Favorite Vacations.
We're asking that you send us your favorite vacation photos, and a brief description of the trip, to be published June 9.
Please send your photos, your name, address and phone number, and a brief description to: Jane Cannon Mort, Special Projects Editor, The Sentinel, P.O. Box 588, Lewistown, PA 17044.
For more information, call Jane Mort at 248-6741 Ext. 115. (and don't forget to send her a postcard from your next vacation!).
Deadline for submitting your favorite vacations: May 21
