McCLURE - Donations are being sought for McClure Veterans Memorial Pool in an effort to raise enough money to resurface the interior of the pool.
Janet Will, board member of the West Beaver Veterans Memorial Pool, said the board is in the midst of getting bids from area contractors, but the entire cost of the repairs will run about $60,000.
A basket auction fundraiser will be held on March 6 at the McClure American Legion, Will said. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the auction begins at 7 p.m., and light refreshments will be available for purchase.
"We have approximately 40 baskets that we are going to be auctioning off," she added.
Each of the baskets have been donated from area residents or businesses, and contain different items, Will said. Some of the items up for bid will be an autographed photo of Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and a set of four in a series of hard books by author Jacquie D'Alessandro.
"We will auction off the set (of books) and the photo to the highest bidder," Will said.

As to whether or not the board is going to start charging an admission price to area residents, Will denied these claims.
"We are definitely going to remain a free pool ... (we) are just trying to do this for the community and the surrounding areas," she said. "We are a free pool and we have been that way for 60 years."
