LEWISTOWN - The Lewistown Borough Council opted not to reappoint its current representative on the Mifflin County Regional Police Board of Directors for 2010 - its last year with the organization.
Council member Nelson Rieffannacht, who was previously appointed and had been serving as the council's representative on the regional police board of directors in 2009, was replaced by council member Frank Berrier by a 6-to-1 vote on Monday during the council's reorganizational meeting.
The only dissenting vote was cast by council member Larry Searer, who, prior to the vote, nominated Rieffannacht to the position.
Berrier will begin representing the council on Thursday at the regional police board's reorganizational meeting in Yeagertown.
At its end-of-the year meeting on Dec. 28, 2009, the council voted 5 to 2 to leave MCRPD at the end of 2010 when current contracts expire and to form its own police force, which is slated to be operational on Jan. 1, 2011.
Also during the meeting, the following people were appointed to serve in the various positions for 2010:
Jim Felmlee was reappointed as borough council president;
Frank Berrier was reappointed as borough council vice president;
Matt Moore and Mayor Deb Bargo were reappointed to represent the council on the Mifflin County Council of Governments;
Bargo was reappointed to represent the council on the Fame EMS Board of Directors.
