LEWISTOWN - Earl E. Beal Jr., 65, of 560 Long Lane, Lewistown, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Nov. 18, 1944, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Earl E. Beal Sr. and Florence (Betlyon) Beal. His wife, Cynthia A. "Cindy" (Stroup) Beal of 560 Long Lane, Lewistown, whom he married July 1, 1972, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca L. McCurdy and husband Arron, of Drexel Hill; and granddaughter, Ava C. McCurdy.
He also is survived by an aunt Freida Shubert and husband Ken, of McVeytown; and an uncle Theodore Betlyon and wife LaRue, of Lewistown.
Earl was a 1962 graduate of Chief Logan High School. Following high school, he attended York Jr. College and Albright College.
He was self-employed business man that bred and boarded standard bred horses. Prior to that, he trained and raced standard bred horses.
He was a member of the United States Trotting Assoc., the PA Harness Horse Assoc., where he served on the board of directors for over 30 years and spent the last 12 serving as president.
He also served as a judge for horse races at the county fairs. He was a member of the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Belleville, where he served a term as trustee. He also was a member of the Getty's Ridge Rod and Gun Club.
Earl was a season ticket holder for Penn State football games. He enjoyed attending and watching car races, hunting and traveling with his wife.
A funeral service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Belleville, with the Rev. Samuel G. Strohm officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville.
His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Baggus Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
