PETTYVILLE, W. Va. - Alva G. LaRue Long, 63, of Pettyville, W. Va., passed away Dec. 21, 2009, at the Willows Nursing Center, W. Va.

She was born Nov. 13, 1946, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Victor and Sarah Steele Sheaffer.

Alva was affiliated with the North Parkersburg Baptist Church, had worked as an office manager at various places and she was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Ripley, W. Va.

Surviving is her husband, Richard C. "RC" Long; two sons, Charles William (Allison) LaRue and Lewis Shane (Kristie) LaRue, all in Pa.; one daughter, Crystal I. LaRue, of Parkersburg, W. Va.; four step-children, Stephanie Ennis, Angie Delisle, Rebekah Lynn Lee (David) and Rachel Lee Long (Bill Finney); 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Victor Scheaffer Jr., of Harrisburg and William E. Scheaffer, of Holt, Fla.; one sister, Vicki Brothers, of Huntington, W. Va. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis Richard LaRue; two sisters, Joyce Seabolt and Wilma Specht.

There will be a memorial service held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the North Parkersburg Baptist Church on Emerson Avenue. The Rev. Dr. William Thomas will officiate.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
