Gayle V. Peters

McCLURE - Gayle V. Peters, 88, of Walker Street, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at 12:58 a.m. in Lewistown Hospital.

She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in McClure, and was the only daughter and youngest child of the late Thomas and Ida Mae (Hughes) Brininger. On April 24, 1943, she married Charles D. "Chip" Wagner who preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1944. On June 25, 1947, she married Guy A. Peters who preceded her in death on July 25, 1995. Gayle had resided in her home in McClure since 1950.

She was a 1938 graduate of McClure High School where she was maid of honor of May Day 1938.

Gayle was employed at the McClure shirt factory and at Kinney Shoe factory, where she retired.

She was an 88 year member of First United Methodist Church, McClure.

Gayle enjoyed camping at "the hole," Phillies baseball, cooking for company especially during bean soup week and playing domino's with her close friends in McClure. She also enjoyed spending time with her great-grandson she called "little pumpkin."

She is survived by one son, Alan Peters, of Lewistown; one daughter, Debra Renninger, of Reading; grandchildren, Karla Renninger, of Shillington and David Peters, of Altoona; one great-grandson, Draven Thomas Peters; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Brininger, of Belleville Retirement Community; 11 nieces; five nephews; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Thomas Allen Peters on Dec. 24, 2004, and three brothers, Hughes D., Rev. Dr. H. Leroy, and Dallas C. Brininger.

Friends and family may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, McClure, with Pastor Cecily Eisley and Rev. Elaine Boyer officiating.

Burial will be in McClure Union Cemetery.
