HUNTINGDON - Leroy W. Stanbrough, 85, of Huntingdon Manor and formerly of 4715 Stanbrough Lane, Huntingdon, died on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 at Huntingdon Manor.
Born June 25, 1924 in Huntingdon, he was the son of Harrison H. and Rhoda M. (Troutwine) Stanbrough.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucretia B. (Beyer) Stanbrough, whom he married May 6, 1948 and who died April 28, 2008.
He is survived by his children, Judith A. Grove and husband Howard of Huntingdon, William A. Stanbrough and wife Anna of Petersburg, and Ronald H. Stanbrough and wife Pearl L. of Huntingdon; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Stanbrough and wife Bernice of Huntingdon.
Leroy was employed from 1962 to 1977 at Greenwood Furnace Nursery, following that he worked at New Holland from 1977 to 1982. He was then employed with the state Department of Natural Resources from 1982 until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement, he was a laborer for Barree Township.
He is a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Ennisville, where he served as superintendent of the building fund for 25 years and superintendent of the cemetery association for 60 years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men's group. He was a 10 year member of the Stone Creek Lions Club.
He enjoyed lending a helping hand and visiting his friends and neighbors as well as farming, hunting and watching wild life from his window.
A funeral service will be held in his honor at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastor Alan Atchison officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, McAlevy's Fort.
His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
