John G. “Skip” Paden
MIFFLIN - John G. "Skip" Paden, 74, of Mifflin (Nook), died at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on Feb. 10, 1935, in Denholm, Juniata County he was a son of the late John F. and Betty J. (Shover) Paden. His wife of more than 53 years, Virginia A. "Ginny" (Berrier) Paden, whom he married on Oct. 22, 1956, survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kimberly M. Hockenberry and her husband Edward, of Cross Keys; Jon Scott Paden, of Mifflin; Kathy L. Pellman, of Lewistown; five siblings, Dawn Sheaffer and her husband Glenn; William Paden and his wife Judy; Flo Ann Cramer and her husband William; Lloyd Paden and his wife Faye; Sharon Arnold and her husband Brooks, all of Port Royal, and he leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
One son, John Curtis Paden, in infancy, and two granddaughters, Cassandra Paden and Erika Paden, preceded him in death.
John was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
In 1989, he retired with 35 years of service from PennDOT, of Mifflintown.
"Skip" enjoyed watching TV, was an avid hunter, but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Pastor Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook.
Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 14, 2009, at the funeral home.
