MILROY - Frances S. Nearhood, 99, formerly of 167 Broad St., Milroy, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Valley View Haven Retirement Community, Belleville.

Born Feb. 7, 1910, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Bertha (Ruble) Thompson. Her husband, Ellsworth Charles Nearhood, preceded her in death on July 4, 1968.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Samuel (Linda) Himes, of Milroy; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Joyce Fultz, on Aug. 18, 1991; sisters, Margaret DeLong, Mae Wolfley, Irene Swanger, Helen Mateer; brothers, Charles Elmer Thompson, Wallace Thompson, Lester Thompson, Edward Earl Thompson and Chester Thompson.

She formerly worked at Thompson Hosiery Mill, Milroy, and American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, for 31 years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.
