MOUNT UNION - A traffic accident Thursday night in Mount Union severed a gas line, forcing a two-block evacuation.
Huntingdon County Emergency Services Director Adam Miller said nobody was injured, however, about 50 homes were affected by the outage.
Miller said the emergency personnel went door-to-door to notify residents and the Red Cross set up a shelter for those affected.
The gas company, UGI, was confident that service would be restored by 5 p.m. on Friday, Miller said.
He said UGI workers are planning on going door-to-door to the affected area, which is just north of the Norfolk Southern rail line, to assist residents with procedures associated with turning back on the gas.
Emergency units responding to the incident include Mount Union Fire and EMS, Newton Wayne Fire Company, Mill Creek Fire Company, Huntingdon Fire Department, McVeytown EMS, Orbisonia-Rockhill EMS and Huntingdon County Emergency Management Services.
