Wright to take the helm in Beaver Springs
LEWISTOWN - Scott Wright will become the third manager in the 56-year history of the Mifflin County Babe Ruth league to be a manager for two different teams starting in the 2010 season.
Wright will take over the manager spot at Beaver Springs. Wright was an assistant coach in 2009. Gary Stimely, president of the league, made the annoucement Wednesday.
Wright coached at Belltown for partial seasons in 1990 and 2003 and was the full-time manager in 2001 and 2002. Wright's record is 30-42.
Wright replaces Dan Heeter, who managed Beaver Springs in its first year of competition in the Mifflin County league with a 16-13 record last summer.
Stimely also announced the other nine managers in the league were returning: Belleville, Bill Corbin; Belltown, Butch Bender; Burnham, Eric Weaver; Lewistown, Bernie Howard; McVeytown, Matt Furgison; Milroy, Ted Rhoades; Strodes Mills, Chris Flanagan; Reedsville, Scott Reigle and Yeagertown, Fred Zook.
Other managers who have led two different franchises are Bender, who managed Burnham from 1983-1986 and is now the manager in Belltown, and Dale Pollock, who managed Lewistown East (2002-2003) and Strodes Mills (1984-1996).
It also was announced that opening day would be April 24, with all 10 teams in action. Two-time defending league champion Lewistown travels to McVeytown, while Strodes Mills will visit Reedsville, Milroy goes to Yeagertown, Belleville is on the road at Burnham and Belltown goes north to play Beaver Springs.
Re-elected as the league's president was Stimely. The McVeytown resident will be entering his 25th year as the league's president. Raymond Klinger of Strodes Mills is the league's vice president.
Howard and Corbin were both re-elected to the secretary and treasurer positions for the 2010 season.
