Arline M. Black

MIFFLIN - Arline M. Black, 87, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, and formerly of McAlisterville, died at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the Village.

Born on July 7, 1922, in Cressona, Schuylkill County, she is a daughter of the late Homer S. and Annie E. (Wolfe) Herner. Her husband, Robert L. Black, whom she married on July 12, 1942, preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1970.

Surviving are: one daughter, June E. Bricker and her husband James Park, of Mifflintown; two grandsons, Timothy A. Lyter, Christopher J. Lyter and his wife Lisa, four nephews and one niece.

One sister, Mildred Krammes, preceded her in death, making her the last of her immediate family.

She retired as a cook from the Rea and Derick Drug Store in the Colonial Park Mall, Harrisburg, after 15 years of service.

Mrs. Black was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of McAlisterville.

Arline enjoyed doing crafts and later in life she traveled extensively.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Erin Bovendam officiating. Interment will follow in the Cressona Cemetery, Cressona.

Viewing will be from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
