LEWISTOWN -Thomas C. "Benny" Benfer, Sr., 60, of 515 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at his home.
Born June 9, 1949, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Guy Abie and Mary E. (Rake) Benfer. His companion of 20 years., Bonnie Coup, survives.
Also surviving are children, Barbara Caruso and Ron of Centre Hall, Denise Aumiller, Ray Hannon and wife Rebecca, Holly Knepp and husband Larry and Heather Snook all of Lewistown; a half-brother, Dan Fox and wife Kim of Mount Pleasant Mills; 15 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas C. Benfer, Jr.
He was a 1967 graduate of Lewistown High School and worked in Machine Shop 1 at Standard Steel for 42 years, retiring in 2009.
Tom was a life member of Lewistown Family Moose Center No. 143 and held various offices, currently serving as treasurer and he also belong to the Legion of the Moose.
He was a member of McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM, Touring Friends Motorcycle Group and The Cruisers, National Rifle Assoc., a life member of Brooklyn and Yeagertown fire companies, a member of City Hook & Ladder, Eagles Nest, VFW Post 7011 and American Legion Post 90.
He enjoyed bowling, camping, motorcycle riding and spending time with family and friends.
A viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
