Honey Gers

LEWISTOWN - Honey Gers, 88, of Desfurest, 84 Granville Run Road, Lewistown, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at her home.

Born Sept. 11, 1921, in Three Springs, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Marie (Smith) Folk and the step-daughter of the late Lester S. Folk. Her husband, Frederick L. Gers Jr., whom she married Nov. 7, 1943, survives.

Also surviving: a son, Frederick L. Gers III and wife Gayle, of Fairfax, Va.; grandson, Frederick L. Gers IV and wife Christy, of Chincoteague, Va.; granddaughters, Catherine A. Gers, of Alexandria, Va., Marie L. Arminger, of Woodbridge, Va. and Kimberly J. Gers, of Orlando, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her mother and stepfather, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Gers, on Aug. 24, 1997.

She was a 1941 graduate of Lewistown High School.

Honey was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, a member of the Music Study Club and the Garden Club, where she held office in the District and State Garden Club Federation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey F. Thoms officiating. Interment will be private, due to the limited parking, at the Gers Family Cemetery at Desfurest.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc. 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
