CARLISLE - Troy A. Burkholder, 82, formerly of Lewistown, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the Carlisle Hospital Emergency Room.
Born June 20, 1927, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Albert and Hattie (Workinger) Burkholder. His wife, Mary Ann (Brubaker) Burkholder, whom he married Aug 12, 1961, died May 18, 2007.
He is survived by five children, Troy A. Burkholder Jr. and wife Debi, of Pittsburgh, Calif.; Daniel A. Burkholder and wife Miriam, of Mifflintown; Susan C. Sipe and husband Keith, of Lewistown; Diana Miller and husband Greg, of Carlisle; and Carol Fultz and husband Scott, of Lewistown; four grandchildren, Doug Fultz, Christa Miller, Brent Miller, and Carrie Dunn.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Burkholder and Kenneth Burkholder.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WW II. He worked at Standard Steel and was a member of United Steelworkers local 1940. He was also a self-employed mason.
Troy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown, Lewistown Lodge No. 203 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, and Jaffa Shrine. He was formerly active with the Mifflin County Democratic Committee.
He enjoyed working outside, hunting and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
His service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Rev. Kari Swigart and Rev. Sarah Keilholtz officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Mifflintown.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
