LEWISTOWN - Area residents are invited to take a trip into history on Sunday during a first-person presentation on the life of Gen. Thomas F. McCoy - a Mifflin County native who served in the Civil War and was the father of Maj. Gen. Frank Ross McCoy.

Lewistown native and historian Tyler O. Gum will portray McCoy, as he reminisces about his wartime experiences, his thoughts on the war itself and his return home. The event, sponsored by the Mifflin County Historical Society, is free and open to the public. The presentation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the second floor courtroom of the Historic Mifflin County Courthouse in Lewistown.

Gum will present this unique monologue in the very room where Gen. McCoy spoke during the Civil War. The first-person presentation will conclude with a discussion prompted by questions from the audience.

A Lewistown Area High School alumnus, Gum is a 2008 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He is working toward his master's degree in applied history at Shippensburg University.

Gum is employed by the National Park Service at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia as an interpretive park ranger. He also is a member of the American Historical Association, the Society of American Archivists, the national Association for Interpretation and the Association of National Park Rangers.
