Early morning crash claims the life of an Orbisonia man
By Megan Bollinger Sentinel reporter mbollinger@lewistownsentinel.comMOUNT UNION - A one-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Huntingdon County man early Sunday morning, Pennsylvania State Police Huntingdon report.
Police said Robert E. Port, 33, of Orbisonia, was traveling along U.S. 522 in Shirley Township around 1:30 a.m. when the SUV he was driving left the roadway and struck a metal guiderail. Police said the vehicle traveled off the roadway and impacted with trees and a rock embankment. The vehicle continued in a northerly direction and traveled over an embankment before dropping 25-feet onto Pump Station Road, police said.
Police said Port's vehicle then proceeded down another 20-25 foot embankment onto an abandoned railroad track, at which point Port was ejected from the vehicle. Police said the vehicle continued to travel and struck two trees before coming to a final rest in the Aughwick Creek.
Police said Port was pronounced dead at the scene by the Huntingdon County Coroner, and the accident remains under investigation. Mount Union Ambulance, Mount Union Volunteer Fire Department and Orbisonia Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene of the crash.
