Supervisors discuss Derry Heights project

By Megan Bollinger, Sentinel reporter, mbollinger@lewistownsentinel.com
POSTED: November 3, 2009

YEAGERTOWN - The following items were discussed or acted upon by the Derry Township supervisors during their regular business meeting on Monday evening:

Derry Township Solicitor Jeffery Snook informed the supervisors of the status of the Derry Heights project. A Pittsburgh developer plans to build a sports complex, movie theater, hotels and restaurant at a location near the Burnham interchange of U.S. 322. The supervisors previously approved the developer's plans conditionally.

On Monday, Snook said that a developer's agreement and storm water management agreement were still needed. Snook said once the developer places the required $6,500 in escrow to cover the solicitor's and township engineer's fees and a set-aside agreement for the initial work is in place, the developer will be issued a notice to proceed.

Snook said a second set-aside agreement will need to be in place when the developer gets the second loan to finance the project, after which point the supervisors will be able to sign the plans.

Passed resolution 2009-16, which stated that any previous resolution stating the township's intent to contribute financially to the placement of ramps in conjunction with the Americans with Disabilities Act and a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation paving project, are void. The supervisors were notified by PennDOT that the updates to the ramps will be financed by the federal government.
