McVEYTOWN - Janet E. Rhodes, 83, of state Route 103 South, McVeytown, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Altoona Hospital.

Born Nov. 15, 1925, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Guy H. and Beulah (Kauffman) Keiser Sr. Her husband, Marion R. Rhodes, preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2003.

Surviving are: three children, Sara J. Peachey, of McVeytown, Ethel V. MacDonald and husband William, of Huntingdon, Leon R. Rhodes Sr., of McVeytown; two other children raised in her home, Nellie Varner and Cuma Beers, both of McVeytown; a niece with whom she was raised, Ruth Kauffman, of Mount Union; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a nephew whom she raised, Robert E. Keiser; three brothers, Ralph W. Keiser, Donald J. Keiser, Guy H. Keiser Jr.; and an infant granddaughter.

A homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and talking with family and friends in her home and on the telephone.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Dale Dobbs officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
