Gerald W. ‘Gerd’ Fasick
MIFFLIN - Gerald W. "Gerd" Fasick, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin and formerly of Mifflin, died at 2:35 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Oct. 3, 1916, in Mifflintown, Juniata County, he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Martin) Fasick. His wife Hulda G. (Showers) Fasick, whom he married on Jan. 16, 1960, preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1988.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death, making him the last of his immediate family.
He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran having served in Alaska, and a 1935 graduate of Mifflintown High School.
Gerald was member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Mifflin, where he had served several terms as president of the trustees, the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863 of Mifflintown and the American Legion Post No. 945, Wormleysburg.
Mr. Fasick retired in 1979 from the United States Department of Agriculture as a federal poultry grader.
"Gerd" was an avid outdoorsman, loving both fishing and hunting.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Pastor Gay Rider officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at the funeral home.
