Juniata Mennonite to hold annual auction

McALISTERVILLE - The Juniata Mennonite School 33rd annual benefit auction is scheduled for Oct. 2 and 3 at the McAlisterville Community Park and Fire Hall in McAlisterville.

On Friday, a chicken and pork barbecue meal is planned for 3 to 7 p.m. Halves cost $4, and dinners are $7. Takouts also will be available. Baked goods also will be sold from noon to 7 p.m.; and a produce, plants and meat stand is slated to open from 3 to 7 p.m.

Also on Friday, a silent auction of theme baskets and business gift certificates will go on from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The silent auction will continue from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The general auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the fire hall. Auction items for the evening include individual student crafts, school collectible pottery, household items, tools and hunting and outdoor equipment. Quilts will be on display.

The Saturday events will kickoff with a home-cooked, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 9 a.m. The cost is $6.50 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 10 and free for ages 3 and under.

Stands will open at 8 a.m. Children's games with prizes and activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The general auction will begin at 9 a.m. in the fire hall, beginning with new business merchandise, household items and student crafts.

Featured items include Steelers tickets, Penn State Golf Course green fees for 18 holes, Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre gift certificates, a Vera Bradley bag, household appliances and quilts.

The furniture auction will begin at 11 a.m. Pieces include an empire base table with four arrowback chairs, oak and cherry finish hall coat trees, a solid cedar chest honey pine bunk beds and a child's chest of drawers.

The outdoor auction will begin at 12:30 p.m., while the indoor auction continues. Outdoor auction items include a project table, workbench, masonry blocks, building supplies, limestone and firewood.

At 2:30 p.m., 13 handmade quilts and a variety of wall hangings, runners, throws and other quilted items will be sold.
