Lois McNitt Reed
BELLEVILLE - Lois (McNitt) Reed, 89, passed away on Sept. 22, 2009, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born on Jan. 13, 1920, at home in Milroy, Lois was the daughter of the late Roland K. McNitt and the late Mary (Mame) Calhoun McNitt. She was preceded in death by sisters: Beatrice A. Snyder, Ruth E. Kennedy and Jean C. Middleswarth.
Lois graduated from Milroy High School in 1938 and from Indiana State Teachers College in 1942.
On June 3, 1944 in New York City, she married Harold Jay Reed who died on July 9, 1975.
Lois was a business education teacher at Burnham, Milroy, Armagh-Brown and Penns Valley Area High schools in Pennsylvania. In 1960, she moved to Absecon, N.J., due to a career change of her husband. She continued teaching business education at Oakcrest High School, Mays Landing, N.J. She retired in 1982, completing 38 years of teaching.
Lois was a member of the Milroy White Memorial Church, Milroy. In addition, she was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, and the Absecon Presbyterian Church in Absecon, N.J. She sang in the choir at all three churches and was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher.
Lois moved to Valley View Retirement Community in 1992. She lived in the Village until 2004 when she moved to the Terrace. In 2008, she moved to the Haven.
Lois was active in the various communities where she lived. She served on the Absecon Board of Education from 1980 to 1992. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of the Eastern Star, the New Jersey Education Association, the Mifflin County Retired Teachers Association and the National Post Mark Collectors Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Jayne Haines and her husband, Stephen, in San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Milroy White Memorial Church, 68 S. Main St., Milroy. Dr. James Barnes will officiate. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service.
Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Cremation services were provided by Auer Cremation Services of Pennsylvania, Inc.
