Minit Mart robbery suspect waives hearing

POSTED: September 17, 2009

LEWISTOWN - A woman from Alexandria currently serving a state sentence for her role in a robbery at a Uni-Mart in Belleville and who was recently charged in yet another robbery case in Mifflin County, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday in Magisterial District Judge Jack Miller's office.

Brandi L. Rupert is charged with robbery and other related offenses stemming from an incident on Aug. 8, 2008, at the Nittany Oil Minit Mart in McVeytown.

According to court documents, a cashier at the Minit Mart told police the robber entered the store, kept one hand in the pocket of their sweatshirt, as if they had a weapon, and stated, "This is a robbery. Open the register."

Police said the robber then jumped over the counter and put money, lottery tickets and cigarettes in a plastic bag, then fleeing the scene through the rear of the store.

Police said they interviewed an off-duty security guard who had stopped at the Minit Mart on his way to work and was present during the robbery.

According to court documents, the security guard said the robber may have been a woman; however, he could not be certain of this.

Police said that a few days later, a manager at the Puff N Snuff Tobacco Store in Mount Union was interviewed because several lottery tickets stolen from the Minit Mart were cashed at the tobacco store.

The manager told police the woman who cashed the tickets was Rupert, court documents indicate.

Police said they interviewed Rupert at a state correctional facility where she is currently serving a four- to eight-year sentence for the Belleville robbery.

According to court documents, Rupert told police that another woman, Jennifer L. Scott, gave her the lottery tickets, which Rupert said she did attempt to cash at the Puff N Snuff store. Rupert also said that Scott was responsible for the robbery.

Police said statements made by Rupert during the interview led them to conclude she was present during the robbery of the Minit Mart, because she described the layout of the store and the presence of the off-duty security guard.

In April, Rupert pleaded guilty to robbery charges stemming from the Belleville Uni-Mart robbery Oct. 27, 2008, on Kish Street.

In this particular case, Rupert and accomplice Jessica Wagner, who also is serving a state sentence for her involvement, led police on a high-speed chase that spanned three counties and finally ended in Duncannon.

According to court documents, several law enforcement officials from nearly half a dozen police departments contributed to apprehending Rupert and Wagner.

Rupert also is charged with yet another unrelated robbery stemming from an incident in Huntingdon County, court documents indicate.

Pending further court action, Rupert remains incarcerated at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility awaiting a formal arraignment for the charges stemming from the Minit Mart robbery. She is represented by Bob Ferguson.
