Helen B. Kerchner

MIFFLINTOWN - Helen B. Kerchner, 94, of Mifflintown, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Lewistown Hospital emergency room.

Born July 19, 1915, in Maze, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Towanda (Shatto) Burris. Her husband, Harold F. Kerchner, whom she married in 1942, died in 1968.

She is survived by one son, Richard Kerchner and his wife, Ruth, of Oakridge, Tenn.; one daughter, Linda K. Parks and her husband, Ron, of Mill Hall; one sister, Theda Pickens, of Woodbury, N.J.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey B. Burris.

Helen graduated from New Bloomfield High School and then from Shippensburg State Teacher's College in 1936. She was a high school teacher and worked in Derry Township, Mifflin County.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Mifflin County Retired Teachers Association and the Juniata County Retired Teachers Association.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 3, at Messiah Lutheran Church, corner of Washington Avenue and South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. William N. Esborn officiating. Interment in Thompsontown Lutheran Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family will provide all funeral flowers, and kindly asks that memorial contributions in Mrs. Kerchner's memory be made to the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Mifflintown Hose Co. No. 1, 510 Washington Ave., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, has care of the arrangements.
