William R. ‘Sonny’ Weimer Sr.

PORT ROYAL - William R. "Sonny" Weimer Sr., 82, of 922 Burd Hollow Road, Port Royal, died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Ross E. and Elizabeth (Ritzman) Weimer. His first wife, Anna (Vawn) Weimer, preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1986. His second wife, Irma (Shirk) Tabb Weimer, whom he married June 2, 1990, survives.

Also surviving: a son, William R. Weimer Jr. and wife Kay, of Port Royal; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anna Weimer, of Port Royal; two stepchildren, Linda Ehrenzeller and husband Martin, of Port Royal and Ricky Tabb, of Mifflintown; five stepgrandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren and a sister, Martha Lindenberger, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Holton and Mae Thomas; and a stepson, Charles Tabb Jr.

Sonny was a retired truck driver and was last employed by Truss Teck, Mifflintown.

He was a WWII Army veteran serving in Yokohama, Japan as a MP.

He was a member of Millerstown Moose Lodge No. 925 and a life member of the following: Friendship Fire Co., Port Royal, where he drove ambulance, VFW Post No. 5863 and American Legion Post No. 298, both of Mifflintown and the Turbett Grange No. 781. Sonny was also a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mifflin. He was an avid camper and enjoyed riding ATV's.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Gay L. Rider officiating. Interment will be held in Old Church Cemetery, Port Royal.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
