EAST SALEM - Paul R. Lauver, 82, of East Salem, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at his home.
Born on Feb. 26, 1927, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, he is the son of the late John P. and Jennie S. (Naylor) Lauver. His wife, Ada E. (Fogleman) Lauver, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1950, preceded him in death on July 25, 1997.
Surviving are four sisters: Edith Lyons, of Chambersburg, Martha Delancey and her husband Russell, of Mifflintown, Esther Davis, of Thompsontown, Anna Mae Bashore and her husband John, of Mifflintown and many nieces and nephews.
One sister, Dorothy Dietz and one brother, Harold Lauver, preceded him in death.
In earlier life, he attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church, of East Salem, and later he attended the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, along with his wife. His memberships included the Tennis Lodge, No. 371, F&AM of Thompsontown, a life member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest No. 88, and the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local No. 0214.
Paul's longtime passion was collecting model trains and related memorabilia and at one time collected and restored antique cars.
Mr. Lauver began working as a mechanic in the East Salem area, was employed at the Harrisburg State Hospital, and later Bethlehem Steel, after which he was employed for nearly 40 years, retiring as a supervisor, from Triangle Pacific Cabinet Corp. in Thompsontown. Using his unique gifts for woodworking and carpentry, he also made and installed kitchens for many people in the area.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2009, from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Martin Lorah officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery.
There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the Funeral Home.
