Elizabeth ‘Liz’ C. Krout

SALEM HILL HAVEN - Elizabeth "Liz" C. Krout, 74, of Salem Hill Haven, formerly of Rebersburg, departed this life on Aug. 20, 2009, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.

Liz, the daughter of the late John D. Mersinger and Mable C. Confer Mersinger was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Gregg Township.

Liz was a graduate of East Penn's Valley High School where she was an excellent athlete in basketball and softball.

On Aug. 19, 1959, she married Richard L. "Lew" Krout who preceded her in death on April 23, 2007.

Liz is survived by two sons, Guy F. Krout and wife Sandy, of Centre Hall and Richard L. Krout Jr. and wife Faith, of Aaronsburg; by four grandchildren, Linda Marie, Jennifer Nicole, Stephanie K. and Richard III; by four great-grandchildren, Denisha, Douglas, David and Joslyn; and by one sister, Clare and one brother, John Mersinger, both of Coburn.

In addition to her husband, Liz was also preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas.

Liz and Lew operated the former Krout Floral in Aaronsburg. She was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church, the Miles Township Ladies Auxiliary and the Millheim Legion No. 444.

Liz was the former secretary of the Democratic Party in the Penn's Valley area. She sold Sara Coventry jewelry and enjoyed playing bingo and bowling in her spare time.

Liz was a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and will be missed greatly by her family.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23 at the funeral home with the Rev. Nathan Pile officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Mills.
