McVEYTOWN - Two people were killed Saturday as a result of a head-on collision along state Route 22 in McVeytown, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.
Police said the accident took place around 5:25 p.m. when a 1990 Ford Ranger, driven by David Kraus, 54, of Lewistown, was traveling west on state Route 22 and, for unknown reasons, drove into the path of a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Rose Bair, 55, of McAlisterville, who was driving in the eastbound lane.
The vehicles sustained major damage, and though both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, they were pronounced dead at the scene by the Mifflin County Coroner corner, the report states.
Police suspect that Kraus was driving under the influence of a controlled substance, according to the report.
There were no passengers in Kraus's vehicle, but there were five passengers in the vehicle driven by Bair, police said. Passenger Amy Cutshall, of McAlisterville, was life-flighted from Lewistown Hospital to Geisinger Medical Center and is reported to be in critical condition.
Three juveniles also were transported to Lewistown Hospital, and their conditions are unknown. McAlisterville resident James Bair, another passenger, was transported to Lewistown Hospital and was later released.
