LEWISTOWN - Robert E. McCartney, Sr., 83, of 29 Franklin Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 13, 1926, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Milton F. and Katherine I. (Dalby) McCartney. His wife, Marianna (Kulp) McCartney, whom he married Sept. 24, 1948, survives.

Also surviving are a son, Robert E. McCartney, Jr. and wife Robin, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Kenneth W. McCartney and wife Becky, Laura L. Kilian and husband Phil and Douglas S. McCartney; step-grandchildren, George Romig, Jr., Chris Lenker and Jennie Romig; six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William McCartney.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Lewistown.

He was a member of Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, a life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 663, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 203 F&AM, Royal Arch Mason, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, Knight's Templer, Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143 and ACTWU.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with Pastor Bill Muldoon officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery with military graveside honors by VFW Post 7011.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 8:30 p.m.
