Two killed in early morning accident
Police: 4 vehicles collide along U.S. 522 between Strodes Mills and LewistownLEWISTOWN - A four-vehicle accident early Thursday morning along U.S. 522 claimed the lives of two local people, Mifflin County Coroner Dan Lynch said.
Lynch said Michael E. Flasher, 19, of Fairview Road, McVeytown, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of multiple blunt force trauma. Lynch also said a 17-year-old male was ejected from one of the vehicles during the accident and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 3 p.m. An independent source not affiliated with the coroner's office later identified the 17-year-old as Thomas Kelley, of Port Royal.
Granville Township police said two other people were taken to Lewistown Hospital, where one was treated and released and the other remained. The identities of those two individuals were not available as of presstime Thursday.
Police said the accident occurred around 6 a.m. when a Ford Bronco II traveling westbound on U.S. 522 between Lewistown and Strodes Mills, near Caldwell Hill Road, crossed into the eastbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on.
A third vehicle struck the Bronco where it sat broadside in the eastbound lane, and then a fourth vehicle traveling east swerved at the accident scene and also hit the Bronco, police said.
West Granville, Junction and McVeytown fire companies, Fame EMS and Medic 29 assisted police at the scene.
