Five up and five down

LEWISTOWN - It was five up and five down in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League on Monday night.

The top five teams played the bottom five teams in the league on Monday and each top five team prevailed. First place Lewistown shutout Milro, 24-0; Burnham in second place just got by Beaver Springs, 2-0; third place Reedsville beat Belltown, 17-9; Belleville, in fourth place, downed Yeagertown, 11-1, and fifth place Strodes Mills edged McVeytown, 13-12.

Belleville 11, Yeagertown 1

YEAGERTOWN - Belleville's Josh Rosefsky tossed a shutout for five innings as Belleville won going away against Yeagertown, 11-1, Monday night. The game ended after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Rosefsky worked the first five innings and only allowed one hit and no runs. The 15-year-old struck out five and walked just one. The only hit came from Kyle Bodtorf in the fourth inning, but he got thrown out at second on a steal attempt.

Bodtorf, a rookie, had Yeagertown's only two hits. He had an RBI single off of Dalton L. Long, who worked the sixth for Belleville.

Will Price went the distance for Yeagertown. He gave up just five hits, but he walked 11 and hit a batter. Yeagertown's defense didn't help matters either as it committed five errors and four of them allowed runs to score for Belleville.

Belleville scored five runs in the third on one hit, a single by Kyle Kenepp, five walks and two errors. Rodney Patterson and Long each drew bases loaded walks.

In the fifth, Long layed down a perfect squeeze bunt that scored a run, while Matt Chester knocked in a run with a ground out.

Leading 7-0 going into the sixth, Belleville wrapped up its scoring with four runs. Belleville had three hits, but only Dyson Mark's single drove in a run.

Lewistown 24, Milroy 0

LEWISTOWN - Lewistown remained undfeated with a 24-0 win over Milroy Monday night. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Three West pitchers combined for a one-hitter. Mitch Welham, Cole Welham and Chris Wilson gave up just one hit and two walks.

Milroy's Caleb Druckemiller had his team's only hit, a single leading off the third inning.

The West hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning as Hunter Walker smashed a two-run homer out of the park and Chris Wilson followed with an inside the park home run down the left field line.

Walker led the Lewistown offense with four hits, while Chris Wilson, Ted Wilson and Cy Treaster each had three hits. Alex Pupo, Heath Hidlay and Logan Swineford finished with two hits. Swineford smashed a triple and Treaster drove in four runs.

Reedsville 17, Belltown 9

BELLTOWN - Alex Hughes had a big night at the plate and on the mound for Reedsville as it beat Belltown, 17-9, on Monday night.

Hughes had three hits including two home runs. Hughes hit a solo home run in the third inning and a two-run shot in the fourth.

Hughes also was the winning pitcher as he worked the first four innings. He struck out two, walked five and gave up four hits.

Reedsville had 13 hits with Hughes and Jeremy Koller leading the way with three each. Koller smashed a double while Dan Sutton and Josh Edwards each had two hits.

Belltown had 10 hits and Troy Mills and Dakota Macknair each had two.

Burnham 2, Beaver Springs 0

BEAVER SPRINGS - In the lowest scoring shutout of the season, Burnham beat Beaver Springs, 2-0, Monday night.

Burnham's Dylan Ritter and Beaver Springs' Travis Fisher locked up in a pitching dual. Ritter went six innings, struck out four, walked two and gave up just two hits. Michael Zoppetti closed out the seventh for Burnham.

Fisher went the distance for Beaver Springs. The 15-year-old struck out eight, walked two and gave up just three hits.

Burnham scored a run in the fourth inning as Colton Schreck had an RBI single. In the seventh, Burnham added an insurance run on a RBI double from Ritter.

Tim Beck had Burnham's only other hit, a single. Both of Beaver Spring's hits came from Shane Connahan, a rookie.

Strodes Mills 13, McVeytown 12

MCVEYTOWN - Strodes Mills had a 13-7 lead after five innings and then held on to hold off McVeytown, 13-12, Monday night.

It marked the fourth time this year that McVeytown has dropped a one-run game. McVeytown has also dropped one run decisions to Belleville, Yeagertown and Beaver Springs.

Strodes Mills had 14 hits with Owen and Avery Craig each getting three. Tyson Searer, Andrew Haubrick and Jacob Larson each had two hits. Searer, Haubrick and Larson each had doubles.

McVeytown came up with nine hits and Dane Wakefield led the way with three. Sam Kauffman had two and Kauffman, Wakefield and Derek Heimbach each had doubles.

Strodes Mills scored three times in the fifth in what turned out to be the winning run. Owen and Avery Craig each had singles along with Haubrick and Larson connected on a double that knocked in two runs.

McVeytown came up with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the winning margin to just a run. Wakefield had his double in the seventh and Kayoan Bae had a two-run single. The game ended when Heimbach failed to execute a squeeze bunt.

Strodes Mills had to bring in its ace pitcher, Searer, to close out the game in the seventh.
