BELLEVILLE - A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a local woman Tuesday afternoon as she was traveling along state Route 655 near Belleville.

Mifflin County Coroner Daniel Lynch identified the woman as 60-year-old Joy E. Curry, of 1947 Glenwood Ave., Lewistown. Lynch said Curry died from multiple blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lynch confirmed that Curry was traveling south toward Belleville on state Route 655 when she attempted to pass another vehicle. Lynch said it is assumed that Curry saw an oncoming lumber truck and steered back into the southbound lane but struck another vehicle in the process. Curry's vehicle then traveled back into the northbound lane and was struck head-on by the lumber truck, Lynch said.

Both vehicles came to a final rest in a field on the west side of the roadway near the Brookmere Winery. The left front end of the truck and the front end of the car were interconnected from the impact.

Mifflin County Regional Police, Reedsville and Belleville fire companies, and Fame and Big Valley EMS responded to the scene.
