Glenn L. Garver
BELLMEADE - Glenn L. Garver, 90, of Bellmeade, formerly of Bellwood, died Wednesday morning, April 8, 2009, at Bellmeade Manor.
He was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, the son of the late Elroy Z. and A. Pearl (Rhodes) Garver. He married Janet M. Morrison on Dec. 21, 1943, in Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2003.
Mr. Garver is survived by many friends and neighbors.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: a son, Bruce H. who died in 1995; and a step sister, Florence Garver.
He retired from the maintenance department of Conrail at Hollidaysburg Car Shops in December of 1979 after 38 years of service.
Mr. Garver was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European theater with the Second Mechanized Calvary Service Troop as a Tec. 4th grade.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona, where he was a member of the Married Couples Sunday school class.
He had also served as a church councilman and was on various committees.
He was a delegate to the Altoona Lutheran Co-mission.
Mr. Garver was a member of the Logan Lodge No. 490 F&AM, and the Scottish Rites Valley of Altoona.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Blair Memorial Park Chapel, Antis Township by Pastor Ralph Hamer. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Glenn's memory may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1407 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
