Man enters guilty plea in federal drug trial
KIERNAN M. SCHALKMOUNT UNION - A Mount Union man charged in connection with distributing heroin in Huntingdon County, pled guilty in federal court with United States District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner presiding.
Jesse Lee Hamman, 29, pled guilty to possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of a firearm.
Martin C. Carlson, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said that on July 7, 2008, Huntingdon County Sheriffs were alerted by a concerned citizen who saw a man traveling at a high rate of speed.
Police said shortly thereafter, Sheriffs deputies located the vehicle described by the concerned citizen and upon approaching the driver, who was later identified as Hamman, saw that he placed something in a nearby vehicle.
Police said a check of the vehicle, yielded the discovery of a .25 caliber handgun.
Police also found Hamman was in possession of 13 packets of heroin, packaged for distribution, court documents indicate.
In addition to the above incident, on Jan. 23, Hamman sold a quantity of heroin and a .22 caliber pistol to a confidential informant. A subsequent search of Hamman's residence yielded the discovery of an additional quantity of heroin, scales and packaging material, police said.
Carlson said Hamman faces a maximum of 30 years imprisonment, a fine of $1.25 million and a maximum six year term of supervised release.
The case against Hamman was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania State Police, Huntingdon County Drug Task Force and the Huntingdon County Sheriff's Department. Prosecution of Hamman is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daryl F. Bloom.
