Sharon S. Nipple

THOMPSONTOWN - On November 18, 2008, at 11:35 a.m., Sharon S. Nipple left his earthly home to plow the fertile fields of Heaven.

Born June 25, 1915, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Simon E. and Pearl G. (Lauver) Nipple. His wife of 75 years, Ruth A. (Long) Nipple, whom he married on July 15, 1933, survives.

In addition to his wife he is survived by: his children, the Rev. Ronald S. Nipple and his wife, Mary Jane, of Lewistown, Shirley N. Stuck and her husband, Joel, of Middleburg, Darwin L. Nipple and his wife, Lynda, of McAlisterville, Trudy N. Oberholtzer and her husband, Harold, of Thompsontown; one brother, Lloyd Nipple, of Liverpool; nine grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

One son, S. David Nipple, two brothers, Joseph C. Nipple and Simon Nipple, Jr., preceded him in death in death.

He was a member of the Turkey Valley Charge, where he had served as Treasurer, and prior to that he had been a member of the Whiteland Church where he was the Treasurer for twenty-five years. He also was a member of the PA Farmers Assoc., and he was a founding member and Treasurer of the Maze Cemetery Assoc.

In earlier life he worked at Van Dyke as a brick molder, after which he had a milk route for 20-plus years, but most of all he was a farmer all of his life, eventually owning and operating his own farm.

Sharon's passion was playing checkers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with his son, the Rev. Ronald S. Nipple, officiating. Interment will follow in the Maze Cemetery, R.R. 1, Thompsontown.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. However, there will be no viewing prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
