MCALISTERVILLE R. Elmer Winey, 96, of McAlisterville, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the Brookline Manor, RR1, Mifflintown.

Born Jan. 23, 1912, in Fayette Township., Juniata County he is the son of the late Russel and Edna (Davis) Winey. His wife, Mary L. (Hower) Winey, whom he married Dec. 18, 1937, preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2000.

Surviving are: one daughter, Janet Eshenower and her husband, Donald, of McAlisterville; two grandsons, Randy Zendt and his wife, Colleen, of Elizabethtown, Craig Zendt and his wife, Tina, of RR2, McAlisterville; two step granddaughters, Kim Bair and her husband, Wade, of RR1, McAlisterville, Dawn Eshenower, of Holland, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Zendt, Jennifer Zimmerman, Seth Zendt, Jordan Zendt, Christina Zendt; four step- grandchildren, Brittany Bair, Ridge Bair, Elizabeth Bair, Garth Osburne.

One sister, Mary Phillips; and one brother, William K. Winey preceded him in death making him the last of his immediate family.

He was a 1931 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville and 1933 graduate of Thompsons Business College, Harrisburg.

His memberships included the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, where he had served as the church treasurer, also the Fayette Fire Co. and the Fayette Township Election Board.

Mr. Winey retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Bureau of Municipal Services, in 1977 after 30 years of service.

Elmer enjoyed fishing, dining out and doing crossword puzzles.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, from the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Joy Hulslander officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
