Hackenberrys celebrate their 50th anniversary

George and Betty (Smith) Hackenberry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26. The couple celebrated over dinner with family and friends.

The couple married on Sept. 26, 1958, at Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown, with the Rev. Harold Snider conducting the ceremony.

They are the parents of three sons: George Hackenberry and wife, April, of Lewistown; Steve Hackenberry and companion, Sue, of Thompsontown; and Mark Hackenberry and wife, Michelle, of New Jersey. They have five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

George retired from Nittany Oil Co. Betty is a homemaker.

Betty and George are known to spend long hours playing games with each other and never having time to be bored. Their friends say they are gracious and kind, giving time, love and support.

The couple attributes love, respect, good communication and never going to bed angry to the success of their marriage.
