Man dies in crash
From staff reports
MIFFLINTOWN - A Mifflintown man was killed Saturday night after his motorcycle struck a pickup truck on state Route 35 in Fermanagh Township, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.
Police said a passenger on the motorcycle, who was not identified, was flown to the Hershey Medical Center after the crash.
Police said Jason Swarner, 34, died as a result of injuries he suffered when his motorcycle stuck a pickup truck driven by Joshua Bender, 20, of Thompsontown.
Bender, who had been stopped in a left-hand-turn lane on Route 35, had turned in front of Swarner's oncoming motorcycle, causing Swarner's bike to strike the truck, police said.
A second pickup truck, driven by Philip Howe, 58, of McAlisterville, had been following Swarner and was forced to swerve to avoid the crash, police said. In doing so, Howe's truck struck Swarner, who, along with his passenger, had been thrown from their bike onto the road.
Police said Swarner was taken to the Lewistown Hospital with severe head injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. Both Swarner and his passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
An investigation into the crash is continuing, police said.

We have known Jason for years. He was a great guy and a devoted father. His family meant the world to him. He will be greatly and sadly missed!

My sympathy goes out to the family. I got to know Jason over the years with the Little Indian football program. Hope the two boys get all the help they need and prayers out to his wife.
