Mary Madeline Wetzler

SHIPPENSBURG - Mary Madeline Wetzler, 85, of Shippensburg, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008.

She was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Emanuele and Carmela M. (Giannusa) Gangi.

Surviving are: one son, Jim Wetzler and wife, Karen, of Shippensburg; one daughter, Millie Stouffer and husband, Dave, of Cleburne, Texas; three brothers, Johny Gangi, Nicholas Gangi (Iris) and Victor Gangi (Barbara), from Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Katie Ackerman (Rick), of Shippensburg, Kendra Wetzler Rovello, of Montana, Christopher Stouffer (Roxanne), of Texas, and Sarah Lindley (Todd), of Okla.; nine great-grandchildren, Zachary and Kristen Ackerman, Andrew and Isabella Rovello, Kennedy and Matthew Stouffer, Jordan, Emri, and Tara Lindley; and many loving nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lester Wetzler; four sisters; and one brother, Anna Desmarais, Teresa Payne, Josephine Gangi, Stella Myer, Emanuele Gangi Jr.; and her grandson-in-law, Mark Rovello.

She worked at Thompsontown Industries Sewing Factory, a part-time cook at Benner's Restaurant and was a bookkeeper for twenty years at the Pennsylvania Department of the Treasury.

In Shippensburg, she was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, life member of Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Morris Chapter AARP, Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, a Red Hat group and the Shippensburg Area Senior Activities Center.

While in Juniata County she had been active in the Wednesday Club of Thompsontown, the Democrat Party, the Millerstown Moose and was a founding member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Mifflintown.

Madeline enjoyed her friends, traveling and shopping.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Our Lady Church with visitation preceding the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 Attn: Tribute 21958801 or to the Community Nurse Program, Shippensburg Civic Club, P.O. Box 593, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
