Benjamin H. Shertzer

THOMPSONTOWN - Benjamin H. Shertzer, 84, a retired dairy farmer, of Thompsontown, formerly of McAlisterville and Millersville, died on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Juniata County. He moved to Juanita County in January 2004.

Born in Millersville, he was the son of the late Benjamin N. and Laura (Haversick) Shertzer. He was married to the late Edith E. (Huber) Shertzer, who passed away Aug. 11, 2005, and the late Lois R. (Hess) Shertzer, who passed away April 9, 1961.

He was a member of Goodwill Mennonite Church.

Surviving are the following children: Ruth, wife of James Landis, of Jonestown, Miriam, wife of Harry Gehman, of Thompsontown, Benjamin N., married to Ruth Shertzer, of Oakland Mills, Barbara, wife of Omar Wenger, of Bellingham, Mass., Martha, wife of Adrian Kuhns, of Chambersburg, Lois Shertzer, Rochester, Wash., Sarah, wife of Aaron Stoner, of Eden, Guatemala, James, married to Rachel Shertzer, of Aurora, N.Y., and Jonathan, married to June Shertzer, of Blairs Mills; 42 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond H., married to Marian, of Earlington; and two sisters, Hilda H., wife of Noah M. Brubaker, of Lewisburg and Susan N. Shertzer, of Lancaster.

He also was preceded in death by an infant son; five grandchildren; and two siblings, Naomi and Alta Shertzer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the Blue Rock Mennonite Church, Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Lancaster, Pa. Officiating ministry will be Brother John Brubaker, Brother David Wadel, Brother Laban Kauffman and Brother Daryl Bair. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may view between 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Blue Rock Mennonite Church. There will also be a viewing after the service. Kindly omit flowers.
