John G. Ughetto

LEWISTOWN - John G. Ughetto, 84, of Ohesson Manor and formerly of North Walnut Street, Lewistown, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Aurelio and Mary Fulli Ughetto. His wife, Mary Ruth Smith Ughetto, preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2002.

Surviving are: children, Carol Dziabo and husband, David, of Enola, John Ughetto and wife, Mary Lou, of Lewistown and Cindi Arain, of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers, Louis Ughetto, of Reedsville and Joseph Ughetto, of Yeagertown; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard "Itch" Ughetto.

He was employed early in life at Beaver's Bakery and later had a Tasty Cake route.

He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and was awarded two bronze stars.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ Catholic Church.

He also was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Brooklyn Fire Company No. 3, Cobler's Club and the Seven Mountains Bowling Association where he was secretary and treasurer of the club. He was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Father Jeffrey Thoms officiating. During the viewing, there will be a scripture reading at 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be Graveside Military Services by the VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Rescue Our Furry Friends, 133 N. Walnut St., Burnham, PA 17009.
