Dorothy Jane Stump

MIFFLINTOWN - Dorothy Jane Stump, of RR 3, Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown, went on to be with the Lord, at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, following hospitalization on Aug. 4, 2008, at Geisinger Medical Center.

Dorothy was born on Sept. 29, 1918, in Mifflin, Juniata County, a daughter of the late Quay and Emma (Steffen) Schlegel. She was married on July 25, 1936, to John Z. Stump, Sr. who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2000.

John and Dottie had three children, who all survive today: John Z. Stump, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, who live in Licking Creek, Charlie and Kathy Stump who live in Centre Hall; Mary Kay Mantel and her husband, Philip, who live in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Mrs. Stump was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Bob Stump, United Methodist Minister, in Sunbury, Debbie Stump, who preceded Dottie in death in 1990, Danny Stump, of Richfield and Lori Melius, of Granville. These were all children of John and Sandy Stump.

Charlie and Kathy's children are Robin Hajzus, of Union City, Sarah Stump, of Harrisburg, Nathanael Stump, of New Bloomfield, Thaddeus Stump, of Harrisburg. Philip and Mary Kay's children are: Philip J. Mantel, Eric Mantel, and Adam Mantel, all residing in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Dottie was privileged to hold and cherish seven great-grandchildren: Tammy, Christopher and Patrick, children of Bob and Glenda Stump; Justin and Dylan Hajzus, children of Robin and David Hajzus; Emma Grace Stump, daughter of Nathanael and Mary Stump; Cecilia Mantel, daughter of Philip J. and Maria Mantel.

She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence A. "Pete" Schlegel, on May 2, 1987.

She was a life-long member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown and an active participant in the Fidelity Class of the Women's Ministry.

Dottie was a good homemaker all of her life, providing great meals and great hospitality. She loved her flower garden as well as bird watching from her back porch.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Michael Leedom, pastor of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Also assisting will be, son, the Rev. Charlie Stump, and grandson, the Rev. Bob Stump. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Viewing times will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, gifts can be given in memory of Mrs. Stump to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
