Vinton E. Hartley

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Vinton E. Hartley, 72, of 14 Morris Road, Schenectady, N.Y. and formerly of Lewistown, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born Feb. 25, 1936, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Maurice H. and Dollie (Dick) Hartley. His wife, Phyllis (Cherry) Hartley, preceded him in death on May 20, 2007.

Surviving are: children, Rhonda K. Carmen, of Albany, N.Y., Jill Ann Trier, of Scotia N.Y., and Sherry Hartley at home.

Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Elsie Linn, of Milroy, Frank Hartley, of Belleville, Donald Hartley, of Lewistown and Gladys Boaz, of Burnham; three grandchildren, Christopher M. Ciota, Jason M. Trier and Joshua D. Trier.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son in 1959, a brother, Maurice, Jr. and a son-in-law, Victor M. Carmen.

He was in the U.S. Army Reserves and was employed as a locator and cable splicer for AT&T and later for Verizon.

He enjoyed gardening and used to enjoy hunting.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with the Rev. George Mark officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
